Layan
Beach - little-known and definitely
quiet
This is a small and relatively unknown beach, nestled in a shallow bay at
the north end of Bang Tao. You get there by following the small road that winds
right through the back holes of the Banyan Tree Golf Club.
Layan Beach is more like a bay than a beach, and the picturesque expanse of
water right in front of the only hotel here, the Layan Beach Resort is
too shallow for swimming. A walk of a few hundred metres takes hotel guests to
Bang Tao beach for this.
The most distinctive feature of this location is the small, coconut-covered
island that blocks the ocean and helps create the bay. The area is quaint, and
if you are looking for a place to really get away from the crowds, this will do
it for you - so long as you don't demans swimming conditions right in front of
your room. But don't stay here alone, for this is far, far from any outside
entertainment.
The ideal blend of a remote beach plus some fine dining and evening
entertainment can be achieved here only by renting a car and driving oneself.
This need not be a daunting experience, and thousands of tourists do rent and
drive. See our pages on Self DriveTours for advice and basic tips.
